Casual Sex

Published by grahamcompany at 7:14 am under Archive, Super Cool Edit This

I guarantee you this is not the kind of site you were hoping for when you clicked on the link for “casual sex.”  Fortunately, you are now involved in a website traffic experiment in which certain key words are tested as blog post titles and the amount of traffic generated to those posts is then analyzed and hopefully some conclusions can be made about which key words generate the most possible traffic.  Traffic is pretty much the be all end all for measuring the success (or failure) of a website.  It’s the great equalizer.  It doesn’t matter if your site has beautifully relevant, original content – if you don’t have at least mediocre levels of traffic visiting your site daily then you might be able to assume that you’re wasting your time.

For many people and especially bloggers, this kind of thing is interesting to talk about but for people like me it sounds too much like “selling out” – that term I learned when I was younger and into the punk rock scene.  I don’t like that way of thinking.  It sounds cheap, inauthentic, and a complete waste of everybody else’s time except the author’s, who is most likely somehow benefiting from the high levels of traffic he/she generates from tactics like including high-traffic search words and phrases like “casual sex” in the titles and descriptions of items on his/her site.  Oh you bloggers, so traffic hungry – me, I need some solid content that’s worth my time and my attention which I guess is pretty valuable, right Google?
